OUR STORY
St. Adelaide Schools, formerly Lighthouse Christian Mission School, is the vision of the presiding Bishop of the United Denomination Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC), Bishop Dag Heward-Mills (http://www.daghewardmills.org) It was started as a Nursery School with two pupils, about twenty-two years ago, at the South Odorkor division by Bishop Dag Heward-Mills' wife, Lady Reverend Adelaide Heward-Mills, under his guidance and leadership. By the grace of God, the School currently runs a Nursery, Primary and Secondary division on two separate campuses, with over five hundred pupils. At St. Adelaide Schools, we are uniquely committed to producing great intellectuals and professionals who know Christ and serve God in their generation. We also emphasize on the holistic nurturing of the spirit, soul and body of every learner who comes to us. The family atmosphere of St. Adelaide Schools provided by our dedicated teachers and aided by our small class sizes and sufficiently resourced campuses, makes the learning experience effective and enjoyable. Together, the faculty and staff of St. Adelaide, offer a high quality international educational experience. The main campus of the School is located in Sampa Valley. This campus houses a Nursery division, Primary division and a Secondary division. Our campuses are well equipped and staffed with qualified, experienced and caring teachers.

Every child deserves the best of education irrespective of race, colour or social standing. At St. Adelaide’s, we provide that kind of education which completely caters for the child’s future aspirations and unique growth needs. We offer holistic nurturing in spirit, soul and body. We have small class sizes which make teaching and learning more effective and enjoyable. We also provide a well-stocked library, science laboratory, state of the art I.C.T unit and an unparalleled Montessori nursery training.
EARLY STAGE OF EDUCATION
The core of St. Adelaide Schools early stage of education’s curriculum focuses on the child and believes that children are curious, active and competent learners. The principles will begin with an integrated approach to learning which is facilitated by the teacher using purposeful play and quality interactions to enable children to construct knowledge and move towards a holistic development. These principles seek to encourage greater participation of children in the process of constructing knowledge and acquiring skills in the six learning areas. Our curriculum is not only providing children with academics and skills but also building good character is becoming our other concern. We equip children with the character-building curriculum in a Bible-based. This complete package is giving children a solid foundation for pursuing their life goals. We have 4 levels in this early stage of education: Toddler (2 – 3 years old.) – where we form the foundation of learning and exploring through play that allows a child to learn in a natural and relaxed way. Students learn basic motor skills and social interaction with peers and adults. Preschool (3 – 4 years old.) – students continue to explore and start expressing themselves. Speaking, listening and writing skills are taught, integrated with character building. Language development, as well as thinking and motor skills, are developed in this stage. Kindergarten 1 (4 – 5 years old.) – building on the skills they possess and more emphasize is given to the development of reading skills through our levelled reading program. Students start to read and write using phonetic in English, learn the basic stroke in Mandarin and start to do simple numeracy. We develop and nurture good social skills as well as character building. Kindergarten 2 (5 – 6 years old.) – consolidation of reading, phonics, spelling in phonetic, comprehension and numeracy skills is the focus as the preparation to primary education. Students will be improved on self-help skills and trained to be independent. Basic music and physical movement are given for all levels. Theme-based approach is used for better results.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
As the foundation stage of the learning journey, we understand that students’ fundamental concepts, as well as learning skills and approaches, need to be built for a lifetime of success. St. Adelaide Primary School focus on building good characters, fulfilling children’s natural curiosity and encouraging students to deepen and explore their understanding on each lessons. St. Adelaide Primary school believes that students need to achieve their best potential. Therefore, we continually renew our programs to include the most up-to-date teaching approaches to young learners. By continual reflection on educational research and updating teaching methodology now and then, our students will be engaged with their learning process and will be ready for their next stage of learning. Typically for learners aged 5 to 11 years, it develops learner skills and understanding through the primary years in English, mathematics, science, Cambridge Global Perspectives and ICT.
LOWER AND UPPER SECONDARY
Secondary School (Grades 7 to 12) offers secondary education integrating the Cambridge curriculum designed for grades 7 and 8, Grade 9 and 10 students study the Cambridge International General Certificate in Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculum for a variety of compulsory and elective subjects, sitting external examinations in Grade 10. Our teachers have the required qualifications and classroom experience and they undergo regular in-house training and professional development courses conducted by Cambridge or any other distinguished institution/speaker to ensure that they keep abreast of current developments in the teaching-learning process. The school provides standardized facilities (including IT Lab, Science Labs, Library, LCD overhead projectors and screen in every classroom) to carry out the required academic activities in preparation for the Cambridge examinations. Typically for learners aged 11 to 14 years. It gives schools a flexible framework for developing skills and understanding in English, mathematics, science, Cambridge Global Perspectives and ICT Starters. St. Adelaide Primary school believes that students need to achieve their best potential.
